How you can set your goals and reach them

Reaching goals and becoming the person you want to be is much easier to desire and think about than to actually put to action. But fortunately, there are ways that we can begin personally reaching goals each day and it all begins with these tips listed in this blog post.

Reaching Goals

I have created this post to help rewire your mentality to want to start organizing, setting, and reaching goals. Also, I have included techniques on how I personally conquer my goals each day to lead up to the bigger goals without having to feel overwhelmed.

Accountability

Just this one trait can really help you with your expectations of reaching goals by a certain time. With accountability, we can be held responsible for a small goal or use it step by step to add up to reaching one large goal.

Keeping yourself responsible is essential to reaching goals. And the good news is, is that this shouldn’t be hard.

It really shouldn’t.

set goals you are passionate about

The goals you have set should be filled with passion and be exciting for you. This is because you need to be able to look forward to working on them rather than feeling like you are forced to do the hard work.

If you are not committed to the goal now or in the beginning. Then what makes you think you will stick to it until the end?

The less committed you are, the less likely you are to succeed in reaching goals. You must have a motive behind what you are striving to do. Or else when the road gets rough and challenges are thrown in your way, you will not feel the motive or reason to continue reaching goals that you once set.

To avoid this, I suggest only setting goals that you can see yourself doing, something you have a reason behind. If you don’t know why you have a certain goal, then reconsidering what you are trying to do may be a good idea.

Mindset

Conquering the correct mindset can make reaching goals much more understanding and serious too. If you are positive about what you have in mind to achieve then you are more likely to keep yourself accountable for your expectations and goals.

Once I conquered the correct mindset. I realized that by reaching goals that I had set for myself, I would be led to success. This makes the work that I put into each goal much more exciting. I also feel more determined of where I am going and I no longer dread putting in the hard work and effort. Because I know it will be worth it in the long-run and that I am passionate about it.

Make Sure They Are SMART Goals

So these goals that we have… they can’t just be average.

They must be SMART.

Smart goals are a way to make reaching goals much more significant.

Smart stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and trackable.

When you set smart goals you are ensuring that you have a clear understanding of what you are trying to accomplish. If your goals don’t match the “smart goal” criteria, they can be harder to reach and can leave some expectations unconfirmed.

smart goals - specific goals, measurable goals, achievable goals, realistic goals, timely goals

Here is an example of my goals, before and after I made them smart.

Goal – I want to be able to do handstand push-ups.

Ok… When can I do this by? How will I achieve this? How many handstand push-ups? Is it realistic/achievable? Why will this help me?

Smart Goal – I want to be able to do 5 handstand push-ups against the door by the end of the month to increase my arm strength.

Now that I have made this smart, reaching goals seems much easier to understand and reach. The key to smart goals is to have it clearly defined. By making sure it is as specific as possible, it will boost your chances of success.

I began to see laid out steps of what I want to do, why I want to do it, and by what certain time. This also made it much more realistic and motivating to get started on the goal.

1 Day At A Time

In order to be reaching goals that are out of the ordinary or pretty big, you must focus on putting in work towards your goals each day. At the end of the day, it may seem like you didn’t get too far or that much done. But as days pass and time adds up, you will then notice how far you have come and how much you have already achieved.

Be patient. It is a growing process.

reaching goals is a growing process, power of chunking

And I totally understand that being patient is not easy. This is a goal that I am personally working on because I like to see instant results. But by tracking my process, I have begun to realize that great things take time.

So you may be thinking… How do I track my progress?

Great question!
Let me share with you because this technique is the most useful tip I use for reaching goals.

I use a Daily & Weekly Planner/Agenda to achieve reaching goals that I set for myself. Something that has been brought to my attention, is how essential it is to write your goals down.

Yes, writing them down on paper.

writing goals down and planning goals out

5 Goals A Day

Last year, I kept my to-do list and daily goals listed in the notes on my phone. I would accomplish a goal and immediately erase it from my notes so that I could move on to the next one. But this sometimes actually had me feeling disorganized and upset.

I felt disorganized and upset because it wasn’t all laid out there in front of me. By keeping my goals on my phone, I couldn’t flip through the pages to see how far that I have come and how much I had already accomplished. Instead, I would only see the goals that I still had to-do because my previous goals had been finished and erased.

By keeping a Goal Planner, each day I can look back at what I have achieved and mark a check mark next to all the goals that I have reached. This helped keep me focused, on track, organized, more creative, and even helped boost my self-esteem!

Goal Strategies

This past year, I have also created a new daily routine to help me with reaching goals that I have set. This routine was recommended in one of Andy Frisella’s podcasts.

By writing your goals down and how you will carry them out, you are more likely to accomplish them. This is known as the implementation intention, it helps exclude any distractions and keeps your focus towards that specific goal.

Each day, I write down 5 critical tasks/goals that I need to accomplish for that day. The list includes goals or tasks that can help me move closer to my end goal.

And since they are written in my planner I don’t forget what they are. But instead, I try my best to accomplish each goal for that day and get in quality work. If I accomplish all of the goals then I won for that day and can write WIN. If not, then I have to write LOSS and I know that I didn’t complete the goals and can try again tomorrow.

But yeah, I prefer not to write LOSS…and I am sure you would rather not as well!

Strive For Those “WINS”

By using this technique, I have gained motivation and accountability to take the small steps that I need to take to reach those bigger goals. Plus, it is super nice being able to flip back through all of the days and see how many wins that I have made. It inspires me to keep pushing harder and helps me clearly understand that good things take time.

Just remember, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.

I absolutely love this planner because it includes a mindmap, vision board, and even some gratitude! Keeping things exciting and productive each day that you plan your goals.

Continue Setting and Reaching Goals

Without setting goals, we wouldn’t be moving much further in life. We wouldn’t take the time to be feeding onto our dreams and chasing after them if we didn’t have these goals and strive for achievement. By setting and reaching goals, you will notice things get done more quickly and you won’t feel as stressed.

Ever since I started using these strategies, I have noticed a confidence boost and rise of motivation. I continue to set goals for myself each day and now I know that even the biggest goals can be reached. Even if it seems like it may take forever to get where you want to be. Just remember to stay accountable, keep the goals smart, and take it 1 Day At A Time. If you do this, then you will achieve anything you put your mind to.

”She knew the power of her mind and so programmed it for success.”

Reward Yourself

After all, has been said and done, you can’t forget to reward yourself for the achievements that you’ve made so far. You deserve something nice and should celebrate when you hit certain milestones and see progress.
