celebrating small wins to reach big goals

Celebrating small wins when it comes to big goals can be somewhat like hiking.

How?

Well, have you ever been hiking?

Picture it.

You begin at the bottom of a big mountain with your neck bent back while you gaze all the way up to the top. I commonly have thoughts going through my head like – “How am I ever going to get all the way up there”?

Unless you go hiking a lot.

Then yeah, look at it as Mt. Everest.

Looking at the mountain as a whole from the bottom-up can make the situation feel more difficult and somewhat frightening. It does a pretty good job of making the hike look like a long and hard process that seems almost impossible to reach the top.

Big goals without any intentions set can lead to failure

And that is exactly how goals can be for us if we don’t start chunking them down into manageable pieces…

We may end up feeling discouraged about what we were aiming for if we don’t spend some time celebrating small wins.

Celebrating Small Wins For Big Goals

With large dreams and goals in mind, celebrating small wins is essential in helping us get closer to achieving our objectives.

When celebrating small wins, you are basically rewarding yourself for each stepping stone that you make on your way up to reach those big goals. This is meant to make your goal more manageable and easier to stick to.

And back to the first reference in this post – celebrating small wins is meant to make the mountain you’re climbing, a little more easy and exciting to handle along the way.

Reaching big goals by celebrating small wins

I clearly remember how daunting it was when I used to set big goals and not spend time celebrating small wins along the way. Over time I would end up feeling discouraged because I didn’t stop and reward myself for reaching certain milestones.

My eyes and thoughts were stuck with the end goal in mind instead of paying attention to what I had already accomplished.

This was all until I realized the importance of celebrating small wins and all of the benefits that came with it for big goals.

Benefits To Celebrating Small Wins

Now that we have confirmed that working towards big goals without rewarding yourself along the way, can be overwhelming and sometimes be the reason you give up.

Let me explain why celebrating small wins can help you avoid some of the unnecessary stress and doubts on yourself.

Making goals less stressful

Clarity

With celebrating small wins – comes clarity for big goals.

I used to look at big goals and find it to be overwhelming. But by setting daily goals and celebrating small wins, I began to see how the ultimate goal could be broken down into a series of small steps. This brought a much clearer understanding of my overall goal strategy.

To Remember Your Goal and “Passion”

When it comes to celebrating small wins, you are constantly reminding yourself of the reason why you have those big goals and what your intentions are.

Passion Should Be The Reason Behind Your Big Goals

Without rewarding yourself at all after a long process, you may feel like you have lost sight of the goal and even some of your passion.

Make the decision to give yourself a pat on the back and be proud of how far you have come. Doing this is a great reminder of how much closer you are to reaching that end goal.

Reinforcing The Good

Celebrating small wins is a great way to reinforce any good behavior and habits.

By rewarding yourself, you are making the decision to support yourself and the hard work you have made. As well as, strengthening any uneasy thoughts that you may have.

This is also a great way to train your thoughts and attitude to want to continue dedicating yourself. And to want to keep taking those steps to move closer towards the top of the mountain.

As well as reinforcing the good thoughts and positive mindset. With a win to celebrate every so often, you won’t be able to help but feel happy.

Gain Confidence

It wasn’t until I changed the goal strategy I was using, that I realized how much confidence I can gain from reaching my goals!

Feeling Confident Because We Take Time Celebrating Small Wins

When I wrote my post about how to reach goals each day, I shared about the Daily & Weekly Planner/Agenda that I use. And I explained how switching over to it made a world of a difference for me.

Keeping all of my daily goals in my agenda, rather than my phone (which I did before) or elsewhere. I am now able to look back each day at all of the goals that I have completed.

It has always been a little confidence boost when I flip through all of the pages in my planner. It allows me to look back at how much I have achieved, how far I have already come, and how much closer I am to the goal!

Motivation

Not knowing how far away you are from your goal can really start to sweep the motivation away from under your feet.

And that is exactly why celebrating small wins can motivate you and help you see how far you have already made it.

We begin to feel more motivated when we have something to look forward to. So imagine all the motivation you can get from celebrating small wins and knowing that you just made it one step closer to your ultimate goal.

You Deserve It

With big goals in mind, you should feel proud of yourself for your passion, commitment, and vision. You should take the time to reward yourself after hard work.

But throughout my time working with others, I have noticed one big quality that many people have in common. We easily punish ourselves and begin to feel guilty after just one mishap. But don’t feel proud of ourselves when we reach a milestone.

Showing yourself some love is so important to continue moving happily forward in life.

Instead of spending so much time focused on the negative and what we might have done wrong. We should take the time to reward ourselves for how far we have come and the progress made.

1 Day At A Time

By appreciating the small victories along the way, I have kept motivated and striving towards my ultimate goal.

This process has helped guide me to reach big goals and make a positive mindset shift.

You Must Take Big Goals 1 Day At A Time

Now, I want to challenge you to think about the next 3 small wins that you can work towards. Write them down on paper and explain how they will help you to reach your bigger goal.

But, don’t forget that all of your big goals will only come if you take small steps of action in the right direction. You can’t expect to achieve something so grand in such a short period.

You must take things 1 Day At A Time.

Did you sleep in later than usual? Was it a night with your friend and a glass of wine? Or did you just scream, shout, and let it all out (with some awesome dance moves)!?!?

Whatever it is, it is necessary.

As long as you take the time to reward yourself and start celebrating small wins if you haven’t already. Then, I have no doubt that you will see an improvement after you begin taking action.

  1. I celebrate small or big win, usually screaming, lol, the last time was when I attended my daughter farewell party at school, and she got the best student award, then there I was screaming as a happy mama, big win for me there knowing my daughter accomplished a big thing in her early life!
