4 Simple Ways To Start Feeling Better About Yourself

There are a lot of things wrong with the modern world, pretty much anyone would be willing to accept that. But if there’s one thing that causes problems for more people than any other, it’s the fact that society often seems built around the intention for us to feel as bad about ourselves. We look at advertising and media and see beautiful, successful people and we internalize the idea that we’re not worth anything because we “don’t have what they have”. Of course, those kinds of things have absolutely no bearing on how much you’re worth as a person. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t impact your self-perception.

However, you don’t have to be trapped thinking that way about yourself forever. There are actually plenty of things that you can do in order to make sure that you’re able to start feeling better about yourself. Here are just a few of them.

Change things you can

If you’re feeling bad about yourself the first thing that you need to do is to look at your life and think about the things that you can change that would make you feel better. I’ve said this a bunch but I will say it again, “focus on the things you can control”.

There’s a chance that those feelings might be coming from your body image. If that’s the case then you may be able to do things like eating better and being more active to help you feel more comfortable in your own skin. Or perhaps the issue is that you’re made to feel useless at your job. If that’s the case then finding something where you’re actually appreciated is likely to make a huge difference to your self-esteem levels.

Accept things you can’t

Of course, there are almost certainly going to be a few things that you can’t actually change in your life. This can often be a deeply frustrating thing since it can make you feel like you’re going to be stuck feeling this way about yourself forever. However, the key is not to be unhappy that you can’t change it, but to learn to accept it.

If there’s something about your body you don’t like but can’t change then the best thing you can do is just to learn to love it for what it is. Being able to learn to accept things in your life that you can’t change is one of the most important steps towards really being happy with both your life and yourself.

Get pampered

The modern world is so busy and filled with so much pressure that it’s easy to feel like you’re being ground down into the dirt a lot of the time. Because of that, sometimes you need to take the time to remind yourself that you’re worth a little love and pampering now and then. Something like a massage or a silkpeel isn’t going to take away all of your problems or instantly feel better about yourself. However, it is going to give you the chance to remind yourself that you’re worthy of treating yourself now and then and that there’s nothing wrong with focusing on yourself for a little while.

Cut toxic people out of your life

At one point or another, pretty much everyone comes into contact with this kind of person. The kind of person who is clearly struggling with their own self-esteem issues. But rather than actually dealing with them they just project onto you by being as rude, cruel, and toxic as possible. These types of low and small-minded people are so below you that they begin to try and pull you down with them.

Don’t allow them to.

The reality is that you are under no obligations to put up with these kinds of people. Tell them straight how they’re making you feel and if they don’t change their behavior then you’re well within your rights to just walk away. It’s not your job to be the thing other people project upon.

One of the most important things to remember is that the issue might not be entirely external. If you take a whole lot of positive steps in your life and you still find that you’re giving yourself a hard time. After some awareness among your surroundings and you’re still feeling incredibly bad about yourself, there might be something deeper going on.

For a lot of people, the idea of talking to anyone about any kind of mental health issue is pretty scary since it’s such a heavily stigmatized topic. However, the truth is that it’s something that a lot of people go through and there’s no shame in needing to talk to someone, whether that’s a doctor, a counselor, or just someone in your life that you trust to offer a sympathetic ear.

  1. Many women look outside of themselves to feel good and numb the pain of being someone they’re not to fit into society’s ideals of what it is to be a woman. Compulsive shopping, excessive eating and prescription pills are just a few temporary escapes women use to feel better. The problem is that although these things may feel good in the moment, they often lead to women feeling even worse about themselves; continuing the negative cycle.
