You might think that it’s easy to stay healthy when you’re in your own house. However, during autumn and winter, you’re more likely to stay indoors which can be a problem. Your behavior starts to change, and you may find that your exercise routine that was once constant gets left by the wayside when the weather starts to turn outside your window. So, how can you make sure that you are staying healthy when you’re at home?

Don’t Stay In Bed!

This first tip is definitely for students who will soon be going home for the winter break. A lot of students will start to stay in bed a lot longer through the later months in the year and sometimes through the summer as well.

Why is this?

Well, it’s hard to resist when you’ve spent weeks waking up in the morning for early lectures. But it’s just not a good idea because you’ll soon throw your sleeping pattern out the window. This means you won’t be able to get a good night of sleep because your body will be restless when it hits the mattress.

You might also find that staying in bed causes back and neck issues. While mattresses are designed to be comfy and provide excellent support, they are supposed to be used for sleeping. So, if you are one of these people who loves to type or work on essays and reports with a craned neck and your laptop resting on your mattress, you need to knock this habit.

Stay The Right Temperature

You might think that when you’re indoors, your body is going to be protected from whatever weather is outside your window. Careful though because you can easily impact your health by the temperature you choose for your home. The thermostat should be set at the optimum level so that you’re warm through the winter months and cool through the summer. Keeping warm through the winter is particularly important if you want to make sure that that you are wanting to stay healthy at home. And to make sure you are dodging the flu and viruses that become more prevalent during this time of year. Wearing felt slippers as you wander around your home is one of the best ways to keep warm, particularly on laminated floors that are common in modern houses.

Keep Active

On winter break it can definitely be a challenge to keep up your typical exercise routine and stay healthy at home. You might not feel like going for a jog or heading to the gym. If that’s the case, then you should be working out at home. Just forty-five minutes a day can be enough to keep fit when you’re staying indoors. This could be anything from Zuma, yoga, cardio and/or weights, or even just sit-ups, squats, and stretches. Remember, it’s best to squeeze in a little exercise each day than to skip it completely. Even just a 15-minute walk is better than nothing, you must put your health before anything else, it needs to be a priority.

Being surrounded by the food we are these days, you can easily slip into a routine of eating processed foods. The danger here is that you won’t be getting the proteins, vitamins, and nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. Getting a home cooked meal at least once a day can solve this problem and keep you healthy at home.

I challenge you to be more aware of your health this winter season. Make it a priority to exercise and eat healthy so that you can balance it out. This will allow you to enjoy that pumpkin pie and Christmas cookies when the time comes!
